One of the challenges of the new and young Diocese was the education of the young, especially secondary education for the African boys and girls.

The government was prepared to support teacher's salaries. The Diocese raised Ksh.32,000 to purchase land at Mosocho (the place of emesocho trees) for the site for the new school.

CARDINAL BOYS COME CALLING – 31st March 2012
Charles Mboga and John Mageto (1977 – 1982) both old boys visited the school on 31st March 2012, accompanied by two of the late Dr Willie Ataya (an old boy too) brothers and two uncles. On arrival at 3.00 pm, we found the principal, his assistant and several teachers eagerly awaiting for us.

Academic performance on the rise
The 2011 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Examinations (KCSE) have been released and Cardinal Otunga has seen improved performance from 2010 performance. The school posted 4 As, 19 A-, 28 B+ with the lowest grade recorded being a C-. Cardinal’s performance for 2011 is so far the second best posted in the school since the 8-4-4 systems exams of 1989 with a mean grade of B plain. It is hoped that the school will continue in a steady improvement in academic performance.

As part of the Jubilee Celebrations, the Cardinal Otunga Old Boys Association (COOBA) sponsored the top three students in each class for a shopping expedition of Ksh. 5,000/=, 3,000/= and 2,000/= for positions 1,2, and 3 respectively. The winners for each class include:
